Super Mario Bros 3 Online is the online version of the third installment in the Super Mario Bros series which is an action-adventure platform game for the NES and Famicom. Super Mario Bros 3 was released on 1988 in Japan and on 1990 in North America and on 1991 in Europe and Australia. It was also remade for the Super Mario All-Stars SNES compilation game on 1993. On 2007, it was released on the Wii's Virtual Console and the 3DS in the US and on 2014 for Wii U Virtual Console. The final installment of the Super Mario Advance series for the Game Boy Advance is Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 in 2003. On 2013, Club Nintendo users could purchase it as a reward that with their coins for the Wii Virtual Console.
Super Mario Bros 3 Online StoryThe plot of the game is about Bowser sending his 7 children to the other lands of the Mushroom World. These lands are formed a gateway by The Mushroom Kingdom, and the respective royal magic wands of the seven kings have been stolen by the Koopalings, transforming the kings into a number of poor creatures using them. In the Super Mario Bros 3 Online, the brothers swear to go and end the Koopalings' malice, and transform the kings back into their ordinary shape. Mario and Luigi fight one of the Koopalings at the end of each world, and reclaim the wand from the Koopaling to change the king back to normal after the fight is over. Bowser kidnaps Princess Toadstool while the brothers are out in their adventure and takes her to Dark Land in his lair. Mario and Luigi then go to Dark Land to fight Bowser. They save the princess after crushing Bowser and bring back peace once more.

A cartoon titled The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3 was made just after the announcement of the game. With a different plot, the cartoon was based on the game and was produced by DIC Entertainment Productions in association with Nintendo. The Koopalings and King Koopa tried to conquest the real world along with the Mushroom Kingdom in the cartoons. A more localized version was also released after the release of the game. In the re-release, for more direct translations of the Japanese names, the names of the worlds were changed to Land while the names seen at the end of the original Japanese version were used by the first English version. Other modifications in the Super Mario Bros 3 Online comprise a minor rewrite changing Kuribo's Shoe to Goomba's Shoe in one of Peach's letters, and a faintly different set of instructions from Toad's N-Spade game.
